EFT is a wonderful tool with a wide variety of uses. We discovered it in 1997 this was for a resolution to an old issue of mine, and I’ve been using it ever since. It’s been an amazing part of my own healing and growth, and a life-changing tool for my family, friends, students, and coaching clients.

EFT stands for “Emotional Freedom Techniques,” and the simplest way to describe it is that it’s like acupuncture without needles, with a wider variety of uses than acupuncture itself offers (in my opinion). It works with the body’s energy meridians, as identified thousands of years ago in Chinese medicine.

EFT (or just "tapping," as most of my clients refer to it) offers a simple, quick, gentle, and non-invasive way to bring relief from a wide variety of symptoms, both physical and emotional. And more importantly, it allows you to get to the underlying cause of the symptoms and address the issues at the source.

Gary Craig, a personal performance coach in California, evolved this method from an earlier version, making it much easier to learn and apply. Once you learn this process, you can use it on your own whenever you need it, instead of having to wait for a coaching session in order to feel better.

How Does EFT Work?

"The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system." Tapping works by clearing the blocks and balancing the body's energy system. The energy meridians are cleared by focusing on the feeling, symptom, or issue, and tapping with two fingers on a series of pressure points on the upper body (face, collar bone area, hands, etc.). The clearing is also facilitated by repeating a series of affirmations aloud.

The entire process takes an average of five to ten minutes for a simple issue, and longer for an issue with many aspects. For 90 percent of the people who use it, the relief is profound. The best way to understand the power of tapping is to experience it.

Sometimes the relief from symptoms is permanent, and sometimes (depending on the complexity of the issue and various aspects that surface), the process may need to be repeated over a period of days or weeks. Once you have learned the basic process, you can use it to clear yourself. Or you may choose to work with a coach or another practitioner who has experience with EFT.
